New York Transit Museum / Metropolitan Transportation Authority

Founded in 1976, the New York Transit Museum, a division of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), is tasked with documenting the history, sociology, and technology of New York’s public transportation systems and conducting research and educational programs that will make its extensive collection accessible and meaningful to a broad audience. The New York Transit Museum and its archival collections are dedicated to telling the story of urban public transportation – from the people who developed, operate, and ride it, to the city and region it has helped shape.
